Day 1: Arrive Beijing

Arrive at any time during the day and make your way to the hotel. An evening group meeting is planned followed by an optional dinner.

Spend the day exploring the central Beijing’s sites starting with a morning orientation of Tiananmen Square.

Day tour to Great walll and late afternoon board an overnight hard sleeper train to Xi’an.

Day 4: Xi'an

Arrive in the historical Silk Road city of Xi’an starting with a morning orientation of the Muslim Quarter and surrounding sites.

Day 5: Xi'an / Sleeper Train

Spend the day visiting the Terracotta Warriors before boarding an overnight hard sleeper train to Chengdu.

Day 6: Chengdu

Arrive in the morning and have time to explore relaxed Sichuan atmosphere in one of the many famous tea houses around the city.

Day 7: Chengdu / Lijiang

Free time to visit the Panda Breeding Research Centre (optional activity) before taking a late afternoon/evening flight to Lijiang.

Day 8: Lijiang

Spend the day walking the old town or a visit to Black Dragon Pool Park or head up to Lion Hill for the amazing views.

Day 9: Lijiang

Free time in Lijiang to head up to Lion Hill for the amazing views of the snow capped mountains of Tibet.

Day 10: Zhongdian (Shangri-la)

Drive to the Tibetan village of Zhongdian and experience China’s contrasting cultures with a visit to the local monasteries.

Day 11: Tiger Leaping Gorge

Bus to Tiger Leaping Gorge and start trekking for a half day taking in the spectacular scenery.

Day 12: Dali

Trek out of Tiger Leaping Gorge and drive by local bus to the Bai minority town of Dali.

Day 13: Dali

After a morning orientation tour of old Dali town free time to explore Cangshan Mountain or Erhai Lake.

Day 14: Kunming / Sleeper Train

A morning drive back to the capitol of Kunming give us some time to explore before we embark on an overnight sleeper train to Guilin.

Day 15: Guilin / Yangshuo

Arrive into Guilin in the morning and take a short bus journey to the picturesque town of Yangshuo along the Li River.

Day 16: Yangshuo

Enjoy the day exploring the beautiful countryside and surrounding villages stopping at local farmers’ houses, rice paddy fields and karst mountains.

Day 17: Longji Rice Terraces

Located north of Guilin are the Longji Rice Terraces a favourite of travellers where you can trek from village to village and see the local minority people of this region.

Day 18: Longji / Hong Kong

Bullet train to Shenzhen before crossing the border into Hong Kong. Explore this spectacular metropolis for thye rest of the day.

You are free to depart at any time during the day.

Day 1 Beijing
Nihao! Welcome to Beijing, the Capital of China.You will have a 6 pm group meeting at your hotel, and there will be more information about the meeting when you arrive at the hotel. Please look for a note in the hotel lobby or ask at reception. Your group meeting will include details about your trip, followed by an orientation walk and optional dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2 Beijing
Today we’ll explore famous sights in Beijing. There will be a lot of walking today as well as using public the subway to get around.After breakfast, we will take the metro to Tiananmen Square, one of the world's largest public squares, home to the Monument of the People's Heroes and the Great hall of the People. Then enter the Forbidden City, built from 1406 to 1420, a ceremonial and political center of the Chinese government for more than 500 years. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987 and is listed by UNESCO as the most extensive collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world. After the Forbidden City, we will stroll in the alleys formed by lines of traditional courtyards known by Hutong and experience the local lifestyle of Old Beijing.

Day 3 Beijing-Xi’an
This morning we’ll take a private bus to visit Great Wall - Mutianyu Section (approx. 2hrs), one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall with 22 towers winding along the mountain ridges. Spend quality time exploring and learning the history of Great Wall of China as well as enjoy the view at Huairou county the suburban area of Beijing.
The great idea is to bring a picnic lunch with you to enjoy at the top the wall during a rest break. Late afternoon, transfer to Beijing railway station and board an overnight train to Xian.

Day4 Xi’an
Upon arrival transfer to Hotel. Your adventure starts with a walking tour of the trendy Muslim quarter, and stroll around at the narrow streets dotted with small shops, markets, and restaurants. Then we will take a walk around Muslim quarter, lively markets, and Bell & Drum Tower.Free afternoon to explore the city.

Day 5 Xi’an-Chengdu
Today we will visit the Terracotta Warriors by bus. You’ll learn all about this incredible archaeological find, discovered in 1976 by farmers digging a well, after being buried for 2,000 years. Three main pits are open for you to view, where just under 2,000 of the total 6,000 warriors – each individually sculpted from clay, each having a different costume, height, and even facial expressions – stand in battle formation. The scale is incredibly impressive. The free afternoon before overnight train journey to Chengdu.

Day 6  Chengdu
Upon arrival, transfer to the downtown area to visit Jinli Street. This street is famous for its historic atmosphere, bustling businesses and most of all its local snacks. Enjoy sticky rice cakes with sesame sauce, spicy chicken on a stick, sweet rice jelly, fried beef pancakes and, for the more adventurous, seasoned rabbits heads. After that, go to Kuanzhai Alley. Kuanzhai Alley, also known as “Wide and Narrow Alley,”consists of three historic paralleled alleys from Qing dynasty.

Day 7  Chengdu/Lijiang
This morning we will visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, where you're able to witness the conservation efforts being made to save this endearing endangered species. There are only around 1,000 pandas left in the world, and 80% of them found in the mountains in Sichuan. The pandas have over 600 acres of parkland to live in, and you can get up close and learn more about these majestic creatures. Watch them play, eat bamboo, napping, and munching bamboo. Then private transfer to airport and take a flight to Lijiang.

Day 8  Lijiang
The Old Town of Lijiang located on the Lijiang plain at an elevation of 2,400 meters in southwest Yunnan, China, where a series of strategic passes give access to the surrounding mountains. The Yulong Snow Mount to the north-west is the source of the rivers and springs which water the plain and supply the Heilong Pool (Black Dragon Pond), from where waterways feed into a network of canals and channels to provide the town. The Old Town of Lijiang comprises three parts: Dayan Old Town (including the Black Dragon Pond), Baisha and Shuhe housing clusters.Upon arrival, transfer from airport to the old town of Lijiang. Then you will enjoy a walking tour of this beautiful town.

Day 9 Lijiang
Today we will continue to explore this old town. We will visit Black Dragon Pool and Lion Hill Park.Black Dragon Pool is a famous pond in the scenic Jade Spring Park (Yu Quan Gong Yuan) located at the foot of Elephant Hill.It was built in 1737 during the Qing dynasty and offers a spectacular view of the region's tallest mountain, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, over its white marble bridge.Lion Hill Park located in the center of the old town, the Lion Hill Park is a nationally rated attraction. The park was built against the hill, resembling a lion lying sleeping, hence its name. The ancient buildings in the park are in the best position to enjoy a bird's view of Lijiang's old town.

Day 10  Lijiang-Shangri-La
We will travel by public bus to Zhongdian, the most significant and best-preserved Tibetan residential cluster in China. We will visit Songzanlin Monastery today.Songzanlin Monastery is the largest Tibetan Buddhism monastery in Yunnan Province. It located on a mountain slope 5km from the county town of Shangri-La. Since the 5th Dalai Lama chose the site through divination in 1679, the monastery has grown into the most important community of its kind in Yunnan.

Day 11 Shangri-La/Tiger Leaping Gorge
The early morning we will take a public bus to Qiaotou, the starting point for your trek through the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Gingerly stepping along a trail swept with scree to allow an old fellow with a donkey to pass; resting atop a rock, exhausted, looking up to see the fading sunlight dance between snow-shrouded peaks, then down to see the lingering rays dancing on the rippling waters a thousand meters away; feeling utterly exhilarated. That pretty much sums up Tiger Leaping Gorge, the unmissable trek of southwest China.

Day 12 Tiger Leaping Gorge/Dali
This morning’s trekking starts with a nice, smooth flat section that has spectacular views. There are only a few uphill battles and one last downhill stretch which is long and slippery. After the half-day trek, we return to Qiaotou, take a public bus to Dali Old Town.

Day 13 Dali
Today you will take a guided walk around Dali old town with your leader. Present-day Dali is a city that combines history with modern convenience. It divided into two areas: the Ancient City and the New District (widely known as Xiaguan). After the tour, enjoy a free afternoon exploring the famed Cangshan and Erhai. Perhaps take the cable car up Cangshan Mountain or stop in at the Three Pagodas or hire a bike to Erhai Lake.

Day 14 Dali-Kunming-Guilin
Travel by public bus to Kunming the capital city of Yunnan province. Upon arrival, we will take a local metro to Green Lake Park.Late afternoon we will back to Kunming train station, and board an overnight hard sleeper train to Guilin.

Day 15 Guilin-Yangshuo
Arrive Guilin by noon (approximately 15.20 pm) and private transfer directly to Yangshuo, famed for its giant limestone karsts mountains and the meandering Li River. Orientation walking tour in Yangshuo West Street, centrally located with lots of shops and restaurants. Stroll around shopping for souvenirs and bargain like the locals do or just sip a cup of coffee on the table along this pedestrian street.

Day 16  Yangshuo
Today we will head out of town on bikes to cycle through the surrounding countryside, and gain an insight into Chinese rural life on a ride where each turn in the road brings you to another picture-postcard location.Free afternoon to explore the town.

Day 17  Yangshuo-Longji
We will jump on a private bus from Guilin to Longji. The Longji region has some of the most extensive rice terraces around. These terraces change with the seasons: filled with water from the mountains before planting, becoming green during the growing season and then golden when the rice is ready for harvest. We will take a short hike upon arrival. This evening you’ll overnight in the village of Dazhai, which is home to the Yao minorities.

Day 18: Longji/Hong Kong (B)
Today we will take a private bus to Guilin train station and board on an fast train to Shenzhen. Upon arrival, we will cross the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border. The border is busy, so there can often be a bit of a wait to get through, and a lot of patience is required. Then take KCR train to central Hong Kong. You will have a few hours to explore Hong Kong before our final tour to Temple street night market.

Day 19: Depart
There are no activities planned for today, and you can depart the accommodation at any time.

Visas - A visa is required for entry into China for all nationalities except Japan, Singapore and Brunei who are allowed visa free stays under 14 days. Travellers holding APEC cards are allowed entrance visa free if their card has already been approved for China.

Under the current guidelines to get a visa you will need to provide the following:

- Letter of Invitation from a Chinese agency

- Copy of Flight tickets

- Hotel booking confirmation

- Travel Insurance (some embassies ask for this document) 

In some cases, you may be required to provide further information or documentation and if this is the case we will notify you as soon as possible.

Booking a Single Room - On this particular tour we are pleased to be able to offer travellers the option of pre-booking a guaranteed single room. Due to the variety of accommodation used on this tour, single rooms are available for a majority of the nightstops, however it would still mean sharing on any overnight trains. All of our tours are planned and operated on a twin-share basis, meaning that the standard cost is based either on individual travellers sharing accommodation with another group member of the same sex, or people who book together sharing accommodation.

Vaccinations and Your Health - We recommend that you contact your primary care physician or a travel doctor for advice on vaccinations and travel health and we advise that you check to see if your tetanus-diphtheria booster is still valid every 10 years. 

Insurance - Travel insurance is compulsory for all our customers. At the start of the trip you must provide us with: the name of your insurance company, your policy number, a 24 hour medical emergency contact number, and the expiry date of the policy. You should ensure that your policy covers you for medical expenses and repatriation. If you are unable to provide all this information at the start of the trip you will not be allowed to join the trip. You can purchase insurance easily online by checking our Travel Insurance page.

Luggage - One main piece of lockable baggage and a shoulder bag. Total allowance: 44lbs/20kgs. Remember, you are expected to carry your own baggage – so don’t overload yourself. It is essential that your baggage is lockable; the airline/train authorities insist on this. Please be aware, before boarding a flight in China that the Chinese authorities will only allow bottles onto aircraft if they have been checked in as main luggage. Any bottles in the hand luggage may be confiscated.
