You’ll hike for 7 miles (12 km) on the mostly paved ground, and there are a few stretches of unrestored pathways with stairs and steep gradients. Be sure to bring your camera! Visas - A visa is required for entry into China for all nationalities except Japan, Singapore and Brunei who are allowed visa free stays under 14 days. Travellers holding APEC cards are allowed entrance visa free if their card has already been approved for China.

Under the current guidelines to get a visa you will need to provide the following:

- Letter of Invitation from a Chinese agency

- Copy of Flight tickets

- Hotel booking confirmation

- Travel Insurance (some embassies ask for this document)

In some cases, you may be required to provide further information or documentation and if this is the case we will notify you as soon as possible.

Booking a Single Room - On this particular tour we are pleased to be able to offer travellers the option of pre-booking a guaranteed single room. Due to the variety of accommodation used on this tour, single rooms are available for a majority of the nightstops, however it would still mean sharing on any overnight trains. All of our tours are planned and operated on a twin-share basis, meaning that the standard cost is based either on individual travellers sharing accommodation with another group member of the same sex, or people who book together sharing accommodation.

Vaccinations and Your Health - We recommend that you contact your primary care physician or a travel doctor for advice on vaccinations and travel health and we advise that you check to see if your tetanus-diphtheria booster is still valid every 10 years.

Insurance - Travel insurance is compulsory for all our customers. At the start of the trip you must provide us with: the name of your insurance company, your policy number, a 24 hour medical emergency contact number, and the expiry date of the policy. You should ensure that your policy covers you for medical expenses and repatriation. If you are unable to provide all this information at the start of the trip you will not be allowed to join the trip. You can purchase insurance easily online by checking our Travel Insurance page.

Luggage - One main piece of lockable baggage and a shoulder bag. Total allowance: 44lbs/20kgs. Remember, you are expected to carry your own baggage – so don’t overload yourself. It is essential that your baggage is lockable; the airline/train authorities insist on this. Please be aware, before boarding a flight in China that the Chinese authorities will only allow bottles onto aircraft if they have been checked in as main luggage. Any bottles in the hand luggage may be confiscated.

Mike

The tour that I was on was just what I wanted. The guide was wonderful and made the tour a wonderful and safe experience. It was one of the most enjoyable trips I have been on. I learned a great deal about China, about the Great Wall and found the Chinese people to be very friendly.

Debra

The tour provided the correct information with regards as to what was going to happen and the expectations. It was the challenge undertaken at a certain time of life and a great personal achievement - both mentally and physically! I loved experiencing Chinese culture and truly hope this does not change as the villages develop. Charles could not have been any better - he was a fantastic tour guide who communicated fantastically with a group whose ages ranged from 28 to 75! The ability of the group varied immensely but Harvey kept it all together. His local knowledge was superb!

Gillian

A fantastic experience, one where you can taste the Chinese culture mixed with city life while having the time of your life walking on the Great Wall of China - perfect! Louis was one of the most personable men one could meet on such a trip. He represented the company and his country in an excellent way. He worked hard to ensure that everyone met their individual goals whilst remaining part of the group.

Jeffery

The trip was fantastic from start to finish. I had no complaints whatsoever. Excellent adventure! Our tour leader Anson was outstanding. Anson made us all feel welcome when he first met us, explained what would happen on the trip and answered all of our questions. Throughout the entire trip Anson went above and beyond what we expected of him!

Ruth

There are lots of destinations everywhere you. Like want to go there is a tour. I had such a good time and was so inspired and proud of myself that I finished it. I loved it! To see the wall was amazing and I met some great people along the way who I hope to stay in touch with. John was great, though I think for cultural reasons or differences it took a little while to warm to him. He is interesting and fun and know the area and you meet lots of cool people.

Peter

I had a fantastic experience! It was my first time in a country where I don't speak the language and, with the help of our guide, I never found it to be a problem. The itinerary was perfectly clearly and followed closely with wiggle room allowing for a good rest. For my first grand international travel experience, David made me feel at ease while providing an exceptional time. Receiving the cultural experience rather than just standard sightseeing was something the tour provided me that I would never have made it by myself.
