Day 1: Arrive Beijing

Spend the day visiting the Terracotta Warriors before boarding an overnight hard sleeper train to Shanghai.

Spend the day exploring water town Zhujiajiao, taking a boat ride down the small canals and visit the gardens.

Morning enjoy free time for shopping. Afternoon board a bullet train to Wuyishan.

Day 12: Wuyishan

Full day exploration of the famed Mount Wuyi featuring distinctive Danxia landform. Go hiking and opt for bamboo rafting.

Day 13: Wuyishan/Longyan

Enjoy free time in the morning, and board a noon fast train to Longyan. Orientation walk around the small town.

Day 14: Longyan/Tulou

Spend the morning visiting a local ancient village. Drive to a village in Yongding, and enjoy an orientation tour around. Overnight in a Hakka Tulou.

Day 15: Tulou

Stroll around the ancient village, visiting some of the region’s largest and best-preserved Tulou, learning more about Hakka like and culture.

Day 16: Tulou/Xiamen

Transfer to Xiamen. Enjoy an orientation walk around colonial Xiamen on the coast.

Day 17: Xiamen

Visit the beautiful Gulangyu Island famed for delicate natural beauty, ancient relics and varied architecture. Explore the most famous Buddhist temple in town—South Putuo Temple.

Day 18: Xiamen/Shenzhen/Hong Kong

Take fast train to Shenzhen before crossing the border to Hong Kong. The rest of the day is left to explore this spectacular metropolis.

Day 1 Beijing
Nihao! Welcome to Beijing, the Capital of China. Your tour begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm, and there will be more information about the meeting when you arrive at the hotel. Please look for a note in the hotel lobby or ask at reception. Your group meeting will include details about your trip, followed by an orientation walk and optional dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2 Beijing
Today we’ll explore famous sights in Beijing. There will be a lot of walking today as well as using public the subway to get around.After breakfast, we will take the metro to Tiananmen Square, one of the world's largest public squares, home to the Monument of the People's Heroes and the Great hall of the People. Then enter the Forbidden City, built from 1406 to 1420, a ceremonial and political center of the Chinese government for more than 500 years. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987 and is listed by UNESCO as the most extensive collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world. After the Forbidden City, we will stroll in the alleys formed by lines of traditional courtyards known by Hutong and experience the local lifestyle of Old Beijing.

Day 3 Beijing-Datong
This morning we’ll take a private bus to visit Great Wall - Mutianyu Section (approx. 2hrs), one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall with 22 towers winding along the mountain ridges. Spend quality time exploring and learning the history of Great Wall of China as well as enjoy the view at Huairou county the suburban area of Beijing.
The great idea is to bring a picnic lunch with you to enjoy at the top the wall during a rest break. Then transfer to Beijing railway station and board an overnight train bound for Datong.

Day 4 Datong
Early morning we will arrive Datong. Today we will visit the most famous sights in Datong: Yungang Grottoes and Hanging monastery.Yungang Grottoes is situated 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) to the west of the city center. According to the record, the construction of these grottoes lasted 50 years, and more than 40 thousand people took part in the project. There are now 53 grottoes with 51000 statues remaining. It is one of the largest grotto-groups in China.Hanging Monastery stands at the foot of Mt. Hengshan, 5 kilometers (3 miles) south of Hunyuan County, and 65 kilometers (40 miles) from downtown Datong City. Since it hangs on the west cliff of Jinxia Gorge more than 50 meters above the ground, it is called Hanging Monastery.Built in 491, it has survived more than 1400 years. The extant monastery was primarily rebuilt and maintained in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Day 5 Datong-Pingyao
Moring, we will board a train to Pingyao(approx. 6hrs). Píngyáo (平遥) is China’s best-preserved ancient walled town. It located in central Shanxi province; It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After arrival, take the electric car to the old town. Follow your guide to explore the ornately designed, mural-coated halls and courtyards. Enjoy the rows of brightly painted statues dating bake to the Song and Yuan dynasties.

Day 6 Pingyao
Explore more of the Pingyao Ancient Town. Discover the first and largest draft bank of China--Rishengchang Draft Bank, Ancient City Wall and experience the prosperity of Ming Qing Street in its old, traditional Chinese style. We will visit the grand folk house Qiao Family Mansion.

Day 7 Pingyao-Xi’an
This morning transfer to Return to Pingyao train station for a bullet train to Xi’an (approx. 3 hours). Upon arrival, private transfer to hotel. Your adventure starts with a walking tour of the trendy Muslim quarter, and stroll around at the narrow streets dotted with small shops, markets, and restaurants. Then we will take a walk around Muslim quarter, lively markets, and Bell & Drum Tower.

Day 8 Xi’an-Shanghai
Today we will visit the Terracotta Warriors by bus. You'll learn all about this incredible archaeological find, discovered in 1976 by farmers digging a well, after being buried for 2,000 years. Three main pits are open for you to view, where just under 2,000 of the total 6,000 warriors – each individually sculpted from clay, each having a different costume, height, and even facial expressions – stand in battle formation. The scale is incredibly impressive.  In the late afternoon, transfer to Xi’an railway station and board an overnight train to Shanghai.

Day 9 Shanghai
Arrive Shanghai by noon, transfer to the hotel. Today we will visit the City God’s Temple area, a folk temple neighboring Yuyuan Garden. The City God Temple in Shanghai originated as the Jinshan God Temple, dedicated to the spirit of Jinshan, or "Gold Mountain," an island off the coast of Shanghai. It was converted into a City God Temple in 1403, during the Yongle era of the Ming dynasty. Its popularity turns the surrounding area into a large pedestrian area that hosts an array of shops, restaurants, teahouses, as well as annual temple fair events. Yuyuan Garden, also called Yu Garden, was originally built in 1559, opened to the public in 1961 and a declared monument in 1982. It is the most extensive ancient garden with Ming and Qing architectural styles.

Day 10 Shanghai-Zhujiajiao-Shanghai
This morning we will take the bus to Zhujiajiao, famed as "Venice of the East," a water town in Qingpu district, the outskirts of Shanghai. It established about 1,700 years ago. There are 36 stone bridges and numerous rivers and many ancient buildings at the riverbanks. It regarded as the best representative example of lifestyle and architecture at Yangtze River Delta. Enjoy some free time in the afternoon for further exploration. You may wander leisurely along the bridges, sit down for a cup of tea, or stroll around the shops for souvenirs. Drive back to the hotel late in the afternoon.

Day 11 Shanghai/Wuyishan
This morning we will visit Shanghai Museum. Then, walk at the French Concession, a concession area from 1849 till 1943. In almost one century, it developed its distinct character with culture mixture of Chinese and European, and also one of the Catholic centers in China. Then continue the visit the Bund, you can get a taste of 1920s Shanghai, walk along Huangpu River; you will get a feeling of the urban city with long history. After the city tour, transfer to Shanghai railway station and take the fast train(approximately 3.5 hours) to Wuyishan. Arrive there at night and transfer to hotel.

Day 12 Wuyishan
Wuyishan, the Wuyi Mountains are a mountain range located in the prefecture of Nanping, in northern Fujian province near the border with Jiangxi province. The mountains have listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for cultural, scenic, and biodiversity values since 1999. There will be a full day hiking in the mountains of Wuyi Scenic Area. You may raft on the Nine Bend Stream to appreciate its serene beauty of the gorges on the bank, or meander on the ancient street with style of Song Dynasty adjacent to Wuyi Palace.

Day 13 Wuyishan-Longyan
You will have few hours free time in WuyiShan until we board a train to Longyan.Longyan is a prefecture-level city in the southwest of Fujian province, bordering the provinces of Guangdong to the south and Jiangxi to the west. It situated in the upper reaches of the Jiulong and Ting rivers. Longyan is famous for it as the "Home of Hakka People," as 75% of the population is composed of Hakka people. Upon arrival, private transfer to hotel, then followed by an orientation walk.

Day 14 Longyan-Tulou
Morning private transfer to PeiTian Village, an old village located in the mountains of Western Fujian Province. This village is the best-preserved one built in Ming & Qing Dynasty in Hakka area. We will walk along the cobbled narrow lanes and stone houses, pass through the bridges and archways, step into the old temples and Hakka academy. Later, transfer to the Tulou village.

Day 15 Tulou
Today we will enjoy a Tulou tour.Tulou are earthen houses. Several stories high, they are built along an inward-looking, circular or square floor plan as housing for up to 800 people each. They made for defense purposes around a central open courtyard with only one entrance and windows to the outside just above the first floor. Housing a whole clan, the houses functioned as village units and were known as “a little kingdom for the family” or “bustling small city.”

Day 16 Tulou-Xiamen
The morning, we will take a public bus to Xiamen, southeastern Fujian province(approx. 3 hours). Xiamen is a typical littoral city with abundant tourist attractions such as islands, mountains, temples, and parks, providing you with a full sightseeing schedule. In 2006, Xiamen ranked as China's 2nd-"most suitable city for living," as well as China's "most romantic leisure city" in 2011. Upon arrival, we will enjoy an orientation walk of this fantastic city.

Day 17 Xiamen
This morning we will take the local ferry to Gulangyu Island. It famed for delicate natural beauty, ancient relics, and varied architecture. We will visit the beautiful seaside Shuzhuang Garden, South Putuo Temple, and check out the world's most significant canon at Hulishan Cannon Fort, enjoy a scenic drive on the Island Ring Road along the East Coast of Xiamen.

Day 18 Xiamen-Shenzhen-Hong Kong
Today will travel by high-speed train to Shenzhen (approx. 4 hrs) and cross the border to Hong Kong. Arriving Hong Kong, take the metro to the hotel. Hong Kong is an autonomous territory, and former British colony, in southeastern China. It's vibrant; the densely populated urban center is an important port and global financial hub with a skyscraper-studded skyline.In the evening, enjoy a light show at the Harbour and the beauty of architectures. Then visit Miaojie(temple street), the most well known and famous night market in Hong Kong and enjoy an optional group dinner at temple street market.

Day 19 Hong Kong-Depart
There are no activities planned for today, and you can depart the accommodation at any time.

Visas - A visa is required for entry into China for all nationalities except Japan, Singapore and Brunei who are allowed visa free stays under 14 days. Travellers holding APEC cards are allowed entrance visa free if their card has already been approved for China.

Under the current guidelines to get a visa you will need to provide the following:

- Letter of Invitation from a Chinese agency

- Copy of Flight tickets

- Hotel booking confirmation

- Travel Insurance (some embassies ask for this document) 

In some cases, you may be required to provide further information or documentation and if this is the case we will notify you as soon as possible.

Booking a Single Room - On this particular tour we are pleased to be able to offer travellers the option of pre-booking a guaranteed single room. Due to the variety of accommodation used on this tour, single rooms are available for a majority of the nightstops, however it would still mean sharing on any overnight trains. All of our tours are planned and operated on a twin-share basis, meaning that the standard cost is based either on individual travellers sharing accommodation with another group member of the same sex, or people who book together sharing accommodation.

Vaccinations and Your Health - We recommend that you contact your primary care physician or a travel doctor for advice on vaccinations and travel health and we advise that you check to see if your tetanus-diphtheria booster is still valid every 10 years. 

Insurance - Travel insurance is compulsory for all our customers. At the start of the trip you must provide us with: the name of your insurance company, your policy number, a 24 hour medical emergency contact number, and the expiry date of the policy. You should ensure that your policy covers you for medical expenses and repatriation. If you are unable to provide all this information at the start of the trip you will not be allowed to join the trip. You can purchase insurance easily online by checking our Travel Insurance page.

Luggage - One main piece of lockable baggage and a shoulder bag. Total allowance: 44lbs/20kgs. Remember, you are expected to carry your own baggage – so don’t overload yourself. It is essential that your baggage is lockable; the airline/train authorities insist on this. Please be aware, before boarding a flight in China that the Chinese authorities will only allow bottles onto aircraft if they have been checked in as main luggage. Any bottles in the hand luggage may be confiscated.
