Day 1 Arrive Beijing

Arrive at any time. Start your trip with a welcome meeting in the evening.

Day 2 Beijing (B, L)

Stroll around Tiananmen Square, venture to the Forbidden City to absorb the powerful majesty of the complex. Explore Beijing Hutong, and enjoy a Tea Art Lesson in an antique tea house.

Day 3  Mutianyu (B,L,D)

Hike on Mutianyu section of wall to absorb incredible views of the Great Wall and its verdant surroundings. Capture fantastic photographs of the wall snaking through the charming countryside.

Day 4  Huanghuacheng (B,L,D)

Continue hiking on the great wall, enjoying the harmonious view of the splendid Great Wall, beautiful mountains and blue water surrounding.

Day 5  Gubeikou (B,L,D)

Stretch your legs with a Taichi Lesson in a farmer’s courtyard. Trek along the walls winding through the mountain, admiring the unique towers along the way. Evening enjoy a dumpling cooking dinner.   

Day 6  Gubeikou (B,L,D)

After a Taichi lesson, start your adventure to the wild Great Wall to the west of the village. Find your way along the broken walls, and imagine how it should be in the past.

Day 7  Gubeikou-Simatai (B,L,D)

Start your hiking to the west section of Jinshanling, and trek along the wild and original section of wall before transferring to Simatai village for night stay.

Day 8  Simatai- Huangyaguan (B,L,D)

Venture to the highest section of the Great Wall, Watch Beijing Tower, and have a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding walls and mountains. Continue on to Huangyaguan after lunch. 

Day 9  Huangyaguan-Beijing (B,L,D)

Hike on Huangyaguan section of wall, ascend Heaven’s Ladder to a ridge top point that commands spectacular panoramas over the mountains, and listen to the legend behind each tower.

Day 10 Beijing-Depart (B)

Breakfast at hotel, and then service end up. Depart at any time.

Day 1: Arrive Beijing (D)
Arrival into Beijing from all corners of the world. Own transfer to hotel. An evening group meeting is planned followed by welcome dinner in city restaurant. Overnight in Dong Fang Hotel.

Day 2: Beijing (B,L,D)
Optional visit to Temple of Heaven early in the morning to watch local people doing various kinds of morning exercises namely Taichi, Kungfu, playing with swords, dancing and singing etc.
After breakfast in hotel, morning visits to Tiananmen, Forbidden City and Jingshan Park. Afternoon walking tour of Hutong. Attend a tea art lesson. Overnight in hotel.

Day 3: Beijing-Jiankou-Mutianyu-Huanghuacheng (B,L,D)
Transfer to Jiankou in private vehicle. The drive to Jiankou will take about 2 hours and half. You'll begin your moderate 6-mile (10-km) hike along original sections of the Great Wall.  As you hike up hill for the first hour, admire sweeping vistas and notice the elaborate stonework and roofs of structures and statues. You’ll also meander through dense jungles and bushes. Throughout your hike, you’ll be provided with water and snacks. At midday, enjoy a picnic lunch that is provided by your guide.Reach the restored Mutianyu section, where you’ll then drive to Gubeikou for an overnight stay at a local farmer's guesthouse. Walk around the village with your guide and learn how it played an important role in defending the capital during the Ming Dynasty.  Then, discover the quaint rural lifestyle of local farmers as you relax and mingle with the farmers over an authentic, home-cooked Chinese meal including dumplings.  Overnight in local farer's guest house Huanghuacheng.

Day 4: Huanghuacheng-Gubeikou (B,L,D)
Continue hiking on the great wall, enjoying the harmonious view of the splendid Great Wall, beautiful mountains and blue water surrounding. Transfer to Gubeikou and where stay the coming two nights.

Day 5  Gubeikou (B,L,D)
Stretch your legs with a Taichi Lesson in a farmer’s courtyard.Today’s walk will be around the inner circle of Great Wall. This is the 2nd defense in case the main wall was breached. Again it is wild wall. There will be lush vegetation thanks to the protection of local government. We will have our picnic lunch on the mountain. Hiking distance: 11km. Total ascent: 709 meters. Hiking time: 4 hours. Rest: 2 hours.

Overnight back in the same guest house.

Day 6: Gubeikou –Jinshanling (B,L,D)
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel to gear up for today’s hike to Jinshanling. As you hike along with your guide, you'll see lush vegetation and learn how this part of the wall has crumbled because in the 1950s local farmers took bricks from the wall to build their houses. Pass by a local village and walk around the inner circle of wall, which was the second defense in case the main wall was breached. Continue walking until the late afternoon. Today, you’ll hike 7.5 miles (12 km) for a total of 4-5 hours, and will rest for a 3-4 hours to take in the views and have lunch. Then you will come to a guesthouse in village called Erdaoliang Jinshanling area for accommodation.

Day 7: Jinshanling –Simatai-Erchu-Jinshanling (B, L,D)
In the morning, enjoy a home-cooked breakfast in the guesthouse and then transfer to Simatai and hike for 2-3 hours on the Great Wall. Continue to hike in the afternoon from Erchu to Jinshanling. It will be a full day hike today and total distance is 6 miles. Total ascent will be 890 meters.

Overnight in the same guesthouse Jinshanling.

Day 8: Simatai/Beijing (B,L,D)
Visit Wang Jing Tower (Watching Beijing Tower). Atop there is a bird’s eye view of the surrounding mountains and if visibility is good enough people say you can see Beijing City. Total hiking distance: 3.88 miles Total ascent: 539 meters Moving time: 1 hour 47 minutes Rest time: 1 hour 29 minutes. You will have lunch back at local restaurant and in the afternoon you will be transferred to Huangyaguan.

Day 9  Huangyaguan-Beijing (B,L,D)
Hike on Huangyaguan section of wall, ascend Heaven’s Ladder to a ridge top point that commands spectacular panoramas over the mountains, and listen to the legend behind each tower. Afternoon return back to Beijing. Farewell dinner of roast Peking duck. Overnight in Dong Fang Hotel.

Day 10 Beijing-Depart (B)

Visas - A visa is required for entry into China for all nationalities except Japan, Singapore and Brunei who are allowed visa free stays under 14 days. Travellers holding APEC cards are allowed entrance visa free if their card has already been approved for China.

Under the current guidelines to get a visa you will need to provide the following:

- Letter of Invitation from a Chinese agency

- Copy of Flight tickets

- Hotel booking confirmation

- Travel Insurance (some embassies ask for this document) 

In some cases, you may be required to provide further information or documentation and if this is the case we will notify you as soon as possible.

Booking a Single Room - On this particular tour we are pleased to be able to offer travellers the option of pre-booking a guaranteed single room. Due to the variety of accommodation used on this tour, single rooms are available for a majority of the nightstops, however it would still mean sharing on any overnight trains. All of our tours are planned and operated on a twin-share basis, meaning that the standard cost is based either on individual travellers sharing accommodation with another group member of the same sex, or people who book together sharing accommodation.

Vaccinations and Your Health - We recommend that you contact your primary care physician or a travel doctor for advice on vaccinations and travel health and we advise that you check to see if your tetanus-diphtheria booster is still valid every 10 years. 

Insurance - Travel insurance is compulsory for all our customers. At the start of the trip you must provide us with: the name of your insurance company, your policy number, a 24 hour medical emergency contact number, and the expiry date of the policy. You should ensure that your policy covers you for medical expenses and repatriation. If you are unable to provide all this information at the start of the trip you will not be allowed to join the trip. You can purchase insurance easily online by checking our Travel Insurance page.

Luggage - One main piece of lockable baggage and a shoulder bag. Total allowance: 44lbs/20kgs. Remember, you are expected to carry your own baggage – so don’t overload yourself. It is essential that your baggage is lockable; the airline/train authorities insist on this. Please be aware, before boarding a flight in China that the Chinese authorities will only allow bottles onto aircraft if they have been checked in as main luggage. Any bottles in the hand luggage may be confiscated.
