Day 1
Chengdu/Leshan/Chengdu - Giant Buddha, old town and tea
Your guide will greet you in your hotel lobby at 08:00 am. Then it's a 2.5-hour journey to the Leshan Buddha. This giant 71-meter-tall stone statue carved into the hillside dates from 713 (Tang Dynasty) when China was ruled by the Lee’s imperial family. The carving took 90 years to complete and has an amazing, well-designed drainage system at the back of the Buddha’s head and ears.
After the Buddha visit, a short drive takes you to a laid-back old town where traditional lifestyles survived from the modernization. Spend some time wandering around the traditional workshops such as blacksmith’s shop, bamboo workshop, barber shop etc.
Later, you will visit a tea plantation. The tea farmer will take us out into the field, where we will learn a lot: from how to choose and pick the best tea sprouts to different regions of Tea. Try your hand at tea picking before sitting down for a taste – more stories to share. As with wine, there is Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir in tea as well!
Return to Chengdu in late afternoon.
